PASSEGGIATA DELLA LANTERNA DI GENOVA

 

L’intervento risulta essere tra i più significativi tra quelli previsti per il Vertice G8 2001 di Genova, sia per la sua valenza urbanistica, sia per il valore simbolico di “riconquista” da parte della città dell’antico faro, fino ad oggi non raggiungibile dai visitatori perché collocato all’interno del porto commerciale.

L’opera consiste in una “promenade” panoramica lunga 800 metri che si snoda all’interno del porto commerciale di Genova ripercorrendo il sedime delle mura seicentesche, per concludersi  con  un parco urbano sul promontorio roccioso dove sorge la Lanterna.

Il percorso, vario ed articolato, si modella sugli spazi che attraversa: sale sulle mura divenendo “cammino di ronda” o vi si aggrappa seguendone lo sviluppo con una balconata di acciaio e legno; si allarga formando spazi di sosta con pergole ed alberature, con eccezionali scorci visivi sul porto e si trasforma, nel tratto finale in un ponte pedonale che si insinua con una curva fra viadotti ed infrastrutture portuali.

Il progetto ha interessato anche il restauro del forte sabaudo, ai piedi della Lanterna, destinato ad accogliere il “Museo della Lanterna” e che è divenuto il suggestivo scenario del parco urbano.

La passeggiata è stata finanziata con la Legge 149/’00 per il Vertice G8 e dalla Provincia di Genova (amministrazione proponente). Il costo complessivo degli interventi è pari a 1.500.000 Euro.

 

PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY TO THE “LANTERNA” OF GENOA

 

The project was between the most significant interventions planned for the International G8 summit held in Genoa in the summer of the year 2001. This is due to the urban value of the project and to its symbolic content, with the re-appropriation of the ancient lighthouse for the use of the whole city. The site was previously inaccessible and was part of the commercial port areas.

The main design feature is a panoramic promenade crossing almost one kilometer of the port area and following the line of the ancient walls of 16th century. This line ends in an urban park at the foot of the lighthouse and on its rocky promontory.

The walk is very varied and articulated and adapts to the different spaces: it climbs over the walls and follows the patrol trench or clings to it in the form of a steel and timber balcony; it becomes wider and creates restareas with seats, pergolas and trees from where it is possible to enjoy stunning views on the harbour; in the final portion the walk becomes a foot-bridge which runs through the highway junctions and the port equipment.

The design included the refurbishment of an ancient fortress at the foot of the lighthouse, transformed into the "'lighthouse museum" and adding a suggestive scenario to this site.

The project has been financed thanks to a special national law for the G8 summit: the overall cost was of 1.500.000. Euros.
